This does not need to be our last time at Mount Rainier. In 2026, we made the mountain a destination—not someday, but 09/18/2026.
For more than a century, its glaciers have been shrinking. National Park Service measurements show that from 1896 to 2021,
Rainier lost about 42 percent of its glacier area and more than half of its ice volume.
The mountain is still magnificent, but it is changing before our eyes. Walk the meadow. Sit inside the old lodge.
Listen to the water. Look up long enough to remember what the mountain looks like today.
Take the photograph. Record the voice. Save the story. Because a 100-year legacy is not only what survives us.
